Italian for Beginners
The eleventh of the Dogme films, and another different interpretation of the Dogme manifesto, this film brought the genre to the spotlight once again. The movie is centered around a class of Italian language students, and appears to be more like a soap opera than a film. The cheesy T.V. quality filming and the overly extreme emotional scenarios reinforce this. Four male students, four female, and a teacher interact with each other in a day to day way. There are not many plot twists, but it does focus on the interconnectedness of the lives of the students. Once again, the very realistic style engages the viewer and is emotionally involving. Not recommended, but that’s just me.
